Find The Perfect Pet

By:Kirstine Pallette

Many people are in search of the perfect pet. Whether you are single, newly married, married with four children, or about to retire, there are some things to consider when you begin looking to include a pet into your family. When you think of having a pet, you most likely think you have to choose between having a dog or a cat, but in reality there are countless animals that can become ideal pets.

Before you go to the local pet shop and bring home a furry friend, think about your specific needs and wants about having a pet. Do you want a pet that you can play with or do you prefer a pet that you can only look at? Do you mind if you have a pet that makes noise or do you prefer the silent type? Do you hope to have a pet that likes to be around people or can your ideal pet hide away when guests come around? Some pets live indoors all the time while others can spend a lot of time outside. Which do you prefer?

You also need to consider what kind of pet owner you will be. Be honest and realistic with yourself about what kind of time and energy you and your family can devote to your pet. If you are busy working many hours each day, chances are it will be hard for you to have a pet that requires steady attention or that needs to be let outside every few hours. Many pets need a lot of attention and like people to play with them. Do you have enough time and energy to play with your pet? And do you have enough money to provide all of the things that pets require? Keep in mind that some pets, like a dog for example, are much more expensive to own than others. It is important that you know what you and your family can do to keep your pet healthy, happy and safe before you make any purchases.

Once you have answered each of these questions honestly, you can begin your search for the perfect pet in a variety of ways. You can visit the local humane society and consider taking in a pet that has been abandoned or mistreated by a previous owner. These pets have often had abusive or uncaring owners and will need extra love and attention when you take them into your home. You can also choose to look for a pet at a local pet store. Pet stores often provide a lot of selection and the workers are often fairly knowledgeable about different pets and their needs. Even the newspaper has a listing of pets that are for sale. You can read about the pets and make appointments with the owners to see if their animals are right for you. So take your time and search out many options for finding the perfect pet.

When you have finally chosen the ideal pet for you, now the real fun begins. You get to take your pet home and begin making it a part of your family. You can play with it and teach it fun tricks that will impress your friends. Just be sure that you give your new pet all the attention it deserves. A pet can be a great addition to many families. Consider finding the perfect one today.
