Anniversaries and celebrations loom large for women than for men. They represent the importance of the bonds they have formed with others and failing to honor these days is a like a failure to honor the relationship.
Men love to impress the women in their life with extravagant gifts. But for the female of the species, it is not largess which counts but the fact that you have remembered; it's not about generosity, it is about thoughtfulness.
Planning is important. The last minute dash to the nearest shop to buy a cheap bouquet when you have obviously forgotten the anniversary is essentially making up for a crime you have already committed – failing to appreciate the importance of her place in your life. Yet ordering even the smallest posy or flowering plant in advance, accompanied by a suitably worded note, a well-chosen card and another small gift thoughtfully selected goes a long way in being in her good graces. You can select from the range of gifts that florists make available at this time and throughout the year – a stuffed toy, a selection of chocolates, or a beautiful and lasting setting for your floral gift (such as a glass vase).
The point is to prove you have put some consideration into the gift, that you know your woman well and that you have thought about what she likes. She may have dropped a hint about what she would like. Think back to conversations you have had with her over the past few weeks. Or select something which relates to her hobbies and interests. Chocolates and wine are always a favorite, especially if you plan to accompany your gift by a night out with an après-soirée or perhaps to have an evening in where you do all the cooking and cleaning up for once. And don't forget the option of tickets to a show.
Any florist will also tell you that flowers have a language all of their own from the single rose with its beautifully understated and elegant declaration of true love to the unbridled passion of a dozen roses, from the sweet simplicity of a posy to the extravagance of a bouquet. The orchid speaks of deep desire while the flowering plant appeals to women who appreciate a gesture but love a gift which lasts. You know your woman. Pick what you know will win her heart.
Finally, you should think about the timing of your gift. Too late in the day and it will seem like you forgot or only remembered at the last minute. Too soon and it will lost in the business of getting to work or getting kids off to school. A mid morning delivery to the home or to your partner's office is the perfect solution. And now is the time to order before the last minute rush.
So take out your credit card now and pick up the phone...your reward is already on its way.
