Trumping Alex

By:E Margaret MacGillivray

In the space of four months, Englishman Alex Tew has achieved a fantastic goal - he has sold practically every pixel on http://www.milliondollarhomepage.com - and has obviously raised enough money to pay for his university education.

By selling advertising space on this homepage, Alex caught the attention of the media and the free publicity he received made sure that his web site has attracted a huge amount of traffic, links from some very powerful web sites - and that obviously provides a spin-off for those who purchased the pixels.

There have been several copycat sites - all following the Milliondollarhomepage style. However, when you look around, there are a couple of sites which have been a little more innovative. For instance, there's http://www.trumpingalex.com - this has also been set up by a student, Erik Lucas. He created an "Alex" wearing "Donald Trump" hair. He's just got the whole site up and running (it went online at the beginning of January) and already has sold pixels.

Erik is also planning to run contests to find lookalikes for Alex and Donald Trump - you can read more about it at http://www.trumpingalex.com/study.php

I wish him well!
