Bullous Pemphigoid

The medical condition known as bullous pemphigoid is a rare autoimmune disease that results in the blistering on one’s skin and occurrence of lesions on an individual. Although this type of medical condition does not arise too often, it is important to relay some general information regarding this illness so that individuals afflicted with a disorder of this type may have something as a reference. Who Is Affected By Bullous Pemphigoid?



Those who usually see incidents of bullous pemphigoid are normally individuals over the age of 40. It is important to note that although it tends to target those individuals in this age range it has been noted to affect individuals who are younger at times as well.



Symptoms of Bullous Pemphigoid



The main symptom one sees with the occurrence of bullous pemphigoid is skin lesions and blisters. These blisters tend to itch and are quite painful at times. The skin lesions are ones which can occur in many areas on the skin and do not stay within one general region.



Treatment of Bullous Pemphigoid



Although there is no outright cure for bullous pemphigoid there are various treatment methods which can be prescribed to help control the occurrence of bullous pemphigoid. The most frequently prescribed treatment method for containing and controlling the outbreaks of bullous pemphigoid is a corticosteroid treatment. There are a few different types of corticosteroid available for bullous pemphigoid treatment; however prednisone is the one which is prescribed most often for patients suffering from this condition.

Although bullous pemphigoid is a medical condition which can be irritating and troublesome, it is important to keep in mind that there are various ways in which individuals can attempt to control the occurrence of this rare condition.
