Learning about Jewelry Armoires

In earlier days, homes were not equipped with built-in closets and wardrobes. Hence, separate pieces of furniture like cabinets and shelves had to be made to provide the necessary space to store clothes and other items. Armoires are storage and organizing furniture that has been used for many centuries. Armoires are tall cupboards that are built with shelves. This allows the armoires to be moved easily across the house if required.
Some feel that the name “Armoire” comes from an original use of these cabinets to store weapons to defend homes and palaces from enemies. A more practical reason might be from the Italian term "arma", which means tools, to indicate that the armoire were initially used as tool cabinets. Whatever might be their initial use, armoires have come a long way in terms of their use and design. They are now used in all rooms. A pantry armoire can be used to hold plates, cups and non-perishable food items. An armoire in a living area or a bedroom can be used to store folded clothing. Even wardrobes are usually described as armoires without shelves.
A jewelry armoire is a very elegant piece of furniture allowing to store effectively various pieces of jewelry. Jewelry armoires come with separate hooks, pegs and storage space for rings, bangles, and chains. They provide an efficient and elegant way of displaying the stored jewelry. Jewelry armoires are used many times to preserve family heirlooms that pass through generations.
Jewelry armoires normally contain four or five drawers standing on long curved legs that feature beautiful carving on the skirt. They have mirrors (mostly flip top) to enable a woman to check out her jewels quickly. They contain doors on both sides with hooks where five to ten necklaces can be hung. Sometimes small sets of tiered compartments also feature to hold small items like rings and earrings. The finish is normally cherry or oak to give the traditional and elegant look. A jewelry armoire enables a woman to organize all her jewelry in a single place in an easy manner and enables her to find the exact piece of jewelry when required for a party or a function.
Although jewelry armoires are available in many stores such as flea markets, and antique shops, the most convenient way to shop is online where large selections are at your fingertips.
Armoires are looked as the best way to organize and store things not just at home, but in commercial establishments also. This has resulted in a lot of change and innovation in the design and functionality of armoires. M
Many hotels in America feature an armoire which can house the television with drawers and shelves to hold other items such as clothes. Thus, the functionality of armoires sometimes replaces the traditional entertainment centers. Even complete computer workstations along with its sections to hold the monitor, CDs, printers, papers, folders and other items, are being referred to as computer armoires. Consequently, armoires now serve as a storage unit for many if not most of our items, from clothes to high-tech devices.
