Get Organized with Debt Consolidation

By:Gibran Selman

The first thing you can do for the consolidation of your debt and manage your money is to get a grip on the wider picture. The crux of the thing is to organize yourself. Begin that and the rest will follow.

You did not incur a debt in a single night, and you are not getting relief in a single day. It happened over some length of time when you spent more than your pay packet. And the way of getting out would be paying more and spending less over some length of time. There you go.

Follow these tips to handle your debt:

-Check out your debt. How much amount you owe and who is or are your creditor/s? To get your debt in order you need to get a better idea of what your financial formalities are. This is the first step.
-Know you much you spend. Prepare a list of things that you spend your money on. How are you utilizing your money? If you have an entire list of all the dollars you spend each month, then you will be better equipped to gain a control over your expenditures. It may hurt initially, but go for it.
-Organize your debts. Try to clear away the smaller debts first. Then move on to the bigger ones. Be cautious when you transfer debts from credit card to credit card because the charges that come with this are rather high sometimes.
-Reduce your wastage of money on unnecessary items and use them to clear away your credit card debts. You may have to let go of HBO, pack your homemade lunch to work or sacrificing the regular coffee at your local Starbucks. Thereby you will save lots of money and reduce the pressure on your credit cards by making a payment there. If you can then pay at least double the minimum credit card payment. Just paying the bare minimum will take very long time to clear your debts, and paying double the amount can take a few years off your looming debts.
-Go through your credit report for debts you may have missed or check for incorrect accountings. To get a free copy of your credit card report log on to annualcreditreport.com.
-Visit a credit counselor if you get stuck anywhere. They will be able to show you the right way. In many cases individuals also file for bankruptcy, and the credit counselor will be able to give you the right advice on such matters.

The way out of a debt is no easy game. It has piled up over the years, and now patient waiting can only solve the problem. They best thing to do is to understand the big picture and have an organizing mentality. Everyday thousands of people are doing it because it is not impossible and the relief that comes from it would make all the self-control worthwhile.
