Israel, the greatest proof that God exists...

By:Terry Dashner

How do I know that God exists…I look at the Jewish race.

At the time of Jesus, Hebrew was already a dead language. The spoken tongue was Aramaic. Yet even today all over the world thousands of Jewish children learn Hebrew. It is used for official documents in the land of Israel.

This tenacity of language is more than stubbornness. It is a sign of the determination of this ethnic group to keep its identity. Scattered, beaten, battered, cursed, consigned to inferior status for centuries, the Jews have nonetheless consistently clung to their faith. Whether or not those around agree with them, the Jewish people hold to their faith and pass it on to their children. It is an admirable trait.

When I think about the survival of the Jew—despite her enemy’s attempts to destroy her since her inception as a nation—I marvel and affirm my faith in God. Why? If there is one, overwhelming proof that God exists, it is the preservation of the nation Israel. Only the God, who rules over all nations, could have kept Israel from going the way of the ancient Canaanites.

Stop and think about this, please. When God promised father Abraham the land of Palestine by covenant, the land promised was filled with a people who would not be moved aside, easily. Isn’t it interesting that God has never reneged on His promise to Israel (or anyone for that matter). After thousands of years, with Israel being displaced from Palestine through many of those years, the Jews were awarded a national status in her ancient land in 1948. And here it is 2005, and against all odds, she remains—the nation Israel.

The Old Testament is an ancient document of promise to the children of faith. It speaks of Canaanites, Amorites, Gibeonites, Geshurites, and a host of other “ites.” But none of these would willingly enter covenant with the one true God, Jehovah; therefore, I can not point to one Amorite, Gibeonite, Geshurite, or any other “ites” who is living and thriving as a nation today. Nevertheless, I can point to Israel as a modern nation. Why? Because God does not lie. When He makes a covenant with a people, He keeps His word forever.

The very fact that Israel lives in her ancient land which was promised to her since the days of father Abraham is the only proof I need that God exists. What about you? Do you need more evidence? The fact that God lives and loves you was established 2000 years ago in Palestine. Jesus who is God in the flesh came into the world to rescue us from your sins. This, too, seems impossible—God becoming flesh to suffer and die for you and me. But just as the Jews have been preserved against all odds, Jesus lived and died for the world. He will receive you forever if you call upon Him. It’s truly miraculous.
