Cleaning Your Poker Chips Make a Difference

By:Nigel Bridges

If you play poker, you have run into this at some point in time. Poker chips that just look beat up, used and dirty. It is not very attractive and some say its bad poker etiquette. If you are hosting a poker tournament you never want to be caught with ratty poker chips. Follow these simple steps and you may be able to bring some life back to those old beat up poker chips.

Non Abrasive

Which ever cleaning product you decide to go with, make sure that it is non abrasive. An abrasive cleaning product will have a tendency to wear down the surface of your poker chips. This is a definite no no!

This ultimately will lead to the poker chip surface being ruff and gritty. This type of poker chip will be ruff on the hands and will become more difficult to slide across the felt. This may also affect the more advanced players with their poker chip tricks at the table.

Leave Poker Design in Tact

You also want to go with a product that will leave the poker design in tact after you have cleaned the poker chip.

Not all poker chips are of the same quality but one thing remains the same. When cleaning them you do not want the design to wash away once you wash off the cleaning agent.

Scrub Lightly

When cleaning your poker chips you always want to scrub as lightly as you can while still giving them a good wash. But there is a fine line between scrubbing lightly and scrubbing hard enough to rub the design off so be careful.

You may want to try and find something extremely soft to wash the poker chips with just to make sure you are not going to do any real damage to them. Some say that a babies wash cloth will do the trick while others say that a soft bristled tooth brush will work. Whatever you use it is recommended that it is not too hard or too stiff.

Buy a New Set

When all else fails and your ten year old poker set has finally seen its last tournament, bury the old one and get yourself some fresh chips!

The price of poker chips has dramatically dropped within the past couple of years as the rise in poker has increased. Today it is possible to get a poker chip set, poker table top, poker cards and accessories for less than $100.

So when the old set has seen better days, drop a couple of bucks and buy a new one.

If you are an old school poker player, than you have probably cleaned your fair share of poker chips. After a few months of tournaments the poker chips have a tendency to get some wear and tear on them due to players handling them, raking pots and doing tricks. Things have changed a bit since the old days though. Now another poker chip set is just a point and click away. So whether you are from the old school or new school, get yourself some clean poker chips, shuffle up and deal!
