How to Choose the Right Wedding Invitations
By:Stan Brock
Wedding invitations are not only an official start to the wedding, but they also are an important way of conveying information about who is getting married to whom and where the event is taking place. It also gives you a chance to put in your requests about the dress code, the bridal registry or the theme of the day.
Wedding invitations should be ordered six to eight weeks before the actual event, in order to check for any spelling mistakes or typos. Most companies who print the cards may also, take an order of printing the wedding maps and place cards. To add a touch of class engraved matchboxes and napkins can also be ordered separately.
When ordering, there are four types of printing that can be used for your wedding invitations:
Engraving is the most elegant of the list, which uses copper plates and gives a dry raised feel, with fine detail. However, it is also the most expensive printing available.
Letter press is the printing which gives a soft, 'pillow like' impression and brings an old fashioned look.
Thermography uses special inks which go through a heating process. It also gives a raised feel, but can not deliver the fine detail seen in engraving. It is also less costly than engraving.
Flat printing is the common printing type, used for books, newspapers, etc. It is the least expensive of the lot.
Invitations as Cues
Wedding invitations are a cue for your wedding. Your guests get a good idea of how the wedding is going to be; depending on the type of wedding card they are sent.
If you receive a wedding invitation, on an elegant, silver rimmed card, you can well expect the actual event to be sophisticated and stylish, with exclusive decor and exquisite dinnerware. It also gives you an idea of what is expected from you. Your gift to the bride and groom should be up to the standards of the entire afternoon.
On the other end of the spectrum, if you are planning your wedding to be a close family affair, on the beach, then you can use the wedding invitation to send out the message. Keeping a casual card, with a flip flop and sunglasses theme, will help your uncles put away their tuxedos and take out their swim shorts instead.
Often wedding invitations are sent out through email. This too gives your guests an idea of what to expect from the event quick and hurried.
