Just Imagine Flying High In A Hot Air Balloon!
By:Bill Urell
One thing that every person should take time to do is to go on a hot air balloon ride. Although most of us have been in a plane and glanced out the window at the world below, there is nothing quite like ballooning and feeling the wind in your hair as you glide above the earth.
Although most people only considering taking a ride in an air balloon on a special occasion such as a birthday or an anniversary, why not set aside a Sunday afternoon and take a ride? The cost is actually very reasonable and it is a wonderful adventure for a family to undertake together.
Most communities now have companies that offer balloon rides to just about anyone. You simply call them up and inquire about their schedule as well as the cost. The cost can vary depending on when you want to take the ride and how many people will be participating. For instance, a balloon ride first thing in the morning might be less expensive than one during sunset.
If you suffer from air sickness you should mention that during the initial booking of the excursion. The same is true if you are scared of heights. It is important for the operator to be aware of these things as they can pose problems during the course of the ride. Someone who is terrified of heights may faint during the ride, and a queasy stomach might cause some trouble for other passengers.
You can take a motion sickness pill before embarking on the hot air balloon ride. Choose one that does not cause drowsiness as you do not want to miss a moment of the ride.
Most companies will suggest that small children not take part in the balloon ride. There are several reasons for this including the fact that the ignition system is very loud. This can prove frightening to little ones and since this occurs during the first few moments of the flight you do not want to have to calm them down during after you have left the ground.
Small children tend to also be afraid of heights and a hot air balloon does venture up quite high. It is much easier to wait until the child is older and able to understand that the balloon does eventually go back down.
Bear in mind that weather may play a significant factor in your trip. The operator must be wary of any inclement weather and may have to postpone the trip for safety sake. Although you may feel terribly disappointed if this were to happen consider that taking a trip in bad weather is not worth the risks. Besides taking a hot air balloon trip in the middle of a cloudy day will not afford you the same view as it would were you taking the trip on a bright and sunny day.
